Square of the Holy Trinity

 

The Square of the Holy Trinity is one of the oldest  and most beautiful square of Budapest, it is located in the heart of the city, in the 1st district of Budapest, in the Castle District. The square which lays next to the Matthias Church is the heart of the Castle District so far. Here you can find the Fisherman Bastillion too, which is the windup of the Castle, and the ornament of the panorama from the Pest side.

The spacious form of the square was built in the 17th century .      

In the middle of the square a column of Holy Trinity was erected, in order to prevent the people from the pest epidemic. Later in the place of it there was put the 15-meter-high Statue of the Holy Trinity ornamented rich with statues and made of a hexagonal block of chalk.
